You may have seen a few of these pop up on your Instagram account or Facebook page. In this article I’m going to show you 5 ways to create an amazing fate before and after photo. Let’s also look at a few weight-loss transformations and see if you can spot the real ones from the fake. I’ve included some real and some fake pics in the mix. See if you can tell them apart.
#1. Strike a Pose
One of the secrets to getting a good after shot is to create a dramatic difference between the look of the shoulders, arms, waist and hips. The first pose should look flat; make sure the head, looking straight at the camera and arms at your sides. Use a flash with no side lighting. Try to push your chin in to make your face and neck look fatter. The idea is to take the worst and most unflattering photo possible.
The after shot should be carefully posed with your chin up, shoulders out and back straight. You’re looking for the V shape; tight waste broad shoulders and flared lats. You can add a slight twist of the waist to make it look even smaller. Once you got the pose in place flex every muscle in your body for the shot and smile.
#2. Bad Lighting Versus Good Lighting
As you mentioned before the before, shot should look like an Eastern European passport from the 1960s. You want the flattest lighting possible taken head-on. Be sure to have your America most wanted expression for the mug shot.
Your “after” lighting should be well sculpted and professional in approach. As a matter of fact, get a local photographer to do the job for you. The main light facing the subject should be set high and on a 45° angle to give some death and shadow to the muscles. Rim lighting on the side should be bright enough to add a sense of drama and shape to the muscles this kind of dramatic lighting will bring out the sculpted edges when you flex.
#3. Add Some Tone
The before picture should have a toneless washed out look. If you have lighter skin tone, you can increase the drama between the before and after pictures even more effectively. Your second shot can be taken after you’ve gotten a spray on or real tan. You apply makeup to your face to look more attractive in the after picture. It’s amazing what a good haircut can do to make you look new and improved.
#4. Wardrobe Malfunction
Add a few of these touches for special effect “before” outfit as unflattering as possible. Try striped boxers or Hawaiian print shorts. You may have to head over to the local thrift store to get the effect that you want. The after picture should have you in the most flattering dark colored outfit you can come up with. Form hugging biker shorts made of neoprene is perfect, just make sure you are pulling your posture high to avoid sagging and bulges.
#5. Extra Tricks for More Convincing Pictures
You don’t have to use Photoshop to get special effects. Eat and drink as much as you can before the first picture. As a matter of fact, try some pizza, beer and lots of water with your pretzels the night before. All that salt and liquid will stay in your system overnight have some leftovers, and more water right before you shoot.
Don’t take your after picture for a few days. Take a colon cleanse and an hour long walk three days in a row before the after picture is taken. Forget about cars for those three days because you’re actually going to lose a few pounds, which shows the most; under your skin. A low carb diet will flush water from your system while the colon cleanse empties your stomach and intestines to get rid of any bloating.
Drink as little water as possible on the day of your shoot. Right before picture time, do as many setups, crunches and pushups as you can get nice and pumped. Sure, you’re going to feel lousy, but you’re going to look great.
There are plenty of other tricks that are used by actors and makeup artists to further the illusion of beauty and fitness. Stick with these tricks mentioned above and you’re on your way to looking the best you’ve ever been without much of a workout a weight loss program.
